So i will try to keep this as short as I can but first off: I obviously do not own the characters and worlds combined and/or mentioned in this fic and subsequent aus. Save for the ocs and world logistics for this fic, all rights go to the respective creators.

Said creators incl: jkr (HP), CLAMP (CCS), Disney (Suite Life), Hiro Mashima (FT), Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MDZS), Warner Bros (Scooby-Doo) and Cressida Cowell & by ext, Dreamworks (HTTYD).

For the AUs: Type-Moon (Fate/stay night), Kohei Horikoshi (MHA), Hiromu Arakawa (FMA), BBC (Doctor Who) and Rebecca Sugar (SU).

Now that we got the main obligatory legal stuff out of the way, a little bit of context for the uninitiated — this is a multi-fandom crossover fanfic i've been working on for years and as a fic, it has become something of a passion project for me.

and with that, i do need to address the elephant in the room: the terf author of the hp series. I think it’s safe to say that whatever nostalgia exists has nothing to do with me actually liking the hp series— I’m not a fucking psycho. However, this fic and the world I’ve created from the initial source material is dear to me and it’s been yrs in the making well before her shitty views were revealed.

Also, the canon post the initial seven books and movies has been dead to most of the fandom for years, with the fandom being 90% compromised of headcanons. it’s been like that since the series ended twenty fucking yrs ago. This is not news to anyone who’s ever been in a fandom whose series long since ended and took a life of its own. reboot?? I don’t know any hbo reboot. lol, I do feel sorry for the kids tho. Anyone getting involved in that production is doing it by choice and I have less sympathy for that particular crowd.

Growing older, I’ve been more critical of the series as a whole, mostly its internalized misogyny more than anything. Lowkey tho, I think the general sentiment is that she’s not a good writer outside of the hp series, and even within it, it’s objectively debatable. However, for all of the bigoted elements present, what does have some value are the themes of love and sacrifice present in the larger scope of the series, and that is what i am going to focus on in the fic— hell, its one of the primary themes to being with. For me, I think her writing was fine for the initial seven books. Some of us got hooked onto this series as kids for a reason 🤷‍♀️

Now, have other stories done those themes far better? Anyone with a functioning brain cell will say “YEAH, NO SHIT!” But, it’s worth noting that jkr will never make money from the fanfic and fanart that’s made by us and for me, that brings a small comfort bc it allows the fandom to stand on its own legs with or without her.

that’s my justification for this fic's existence at least. Look, this is entirely a ymmv situation. At the end of the day, fanfic is still fanfic, fanart is fanart, and if you wanna go after anyone, go after the ppl who are actually still licking jkr’s moldy ass boots and are causing real ass harm outside of the online bubble. This shit goes both fucking ways.

tldr: i've had happy memories with the hp series and while I occasionally interact with the fics and art, that ship nevertheless sailed a long damn time ago for multiple, very obvious reasons. tbh at this point in my fanfic writing career, I’m just trying to finish something I started (so many wips…) 🫡

knowledge of the hp universe and plot is somewhat needed, but not a requirement— being aware of the major plot beats should be enough. prior knowledge of the rest of the series/universes combined is not necessary.

even if the chrs included from their respective series will be in their post canon-era, it’ll be a nice bonus of understanding the choices being made for the fic 👀 (w/ one notable exception which I’ll elaborate in a bit).

That being said, being familiar with at least hp, ccs and/or mdzs will be more enjoyable and easier for you in the long run. Being familiar w/ all three (all seven even) would be ideal but expecting that level of knowledge is realistically impossible, so I’m gonna try my best to make it coherent enough so that said knowledge (while still useful) can be a moot point.

mdzs’ part in this fic will be a reincarnation au in part due to its status of post-canonicity. I will be working with a combination of novel and donghua canon— cql (the untamed) won’t be included bc it’s canon as an adaptation has enough contradictory elements to most of the novel to start messing with the fic’s plot and history.

cardcaptor sakura's sequel series (clear card) won't be taken into account— save for Kaito, Momo and Akiho, with their backstories accordingly adjusted. Without spoiling much, the OG plot for ccs will run concurrently alongside the first two entries in the hp series. Starting from Prisoner of Azkaban, the path will start noticeably diverging from clear card.

suite life’s lore in this fic is going to be noticeably different— i.e, the small shifts made are significant enough to consider suite life’s place in the fic as an au and thus, not post canon. For starters, suite life takes place in the mid-late 2000’s and i had to shift that to hp’s time period for the plot to be coherent, in addition to other fic appropriate adjustments.

fairy tail is used in a more historical context in this fic (aka, post canon, and for simplicity’s sake, it’ll be years after the OG run of the main series). I don’t know yet if 100yq will be super relevant here bc it’s not complete and thus cannot completely depend on that ending. All four main pairings are game tho.

httyd’s place in the fic is also in a historical context. In terms of being post-canon, dragons going ‘extinct’ will be played around with, mostly bc of fairy tail’s dragons also….well, going extinct, and hp’s dragons being highly dangerous beasts that you obviously cannot tame and ride.

scooby-doo has the least amount of adjustments; the only iteration of the characters being used are from Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Also post-canon, and I mean that very loosely. If you are aware of how the show ends, just know that the “when” of where they get sent is a vital distinction from canon and that there’s a reason regression isakai is v popular as a genre.

TLDR; I want to make the entry point into this fic as painless as I can with minimal homework while also not repeating stuff for readers who will probably understand the context of my decisions.

also, regarding the canonicity of to live, breath and redeem, it’s worth keeping in mind that I had never intended to officially add MDZS to MF as a whole and it was supposed to be a one off like the other “MF with” series. Funny how the world works. Bc of that, tlbar is a draft of sorts to what MDZS will look like in the actual fic. The reason why I say this is bc in that fic, the main endgame pairing will be Jin zixuan and Subha Patel. Xuanli will still be endgame in the actual fic, tlbar is just me experimenting with different relationship dynamics.
